Stained glass overlay (SGO) & other window films may look like authentic stained glass, but are very different. A stained glass overlay window is made with a series of adhesive-backed colored films and lead that is applied to a solid piece of clear tempered glass. Stained glass windows are individual pieces of colored and textured glasses that are cut and soldered together.

SGO designers cut the colored film and apply it to the clear glass to create a design that mimics stained glass. But in our opinion, a stained glass overlay and other colored films do not have the texture, longevity and beauty of stained glass.

Authentic stained glass windows can last for 100-125 years. At that point in time, when the camming (channeling) has started to decay, the stained glass windows can be easily restored for future generations to enjoy. Why choose alternatives that were inspired by stained glass when you can have the real deal for about the same price?
